Year 4 - Foxes 2024 - 2025
Miss Winter
Welcome to the Foxes Class!
Our children in Foxes have a fantastic attitude to their learning and demonstrate brilliant enthusiasm for every aspect of our INSPIRE curriculum. We are so proud to see their growing confidence as they rise through the school.
In Year 4, we can experience exciting new learning, such as swimming and clarinets in music, however it is also very important year because at the end of Year 4 we will complete our Multiplication Tables Check (MTC). Through our topics in Year 4, our children become passionate about the history of our world and the condition of our environment today. We look forward to sharing our amazing experiences and excellent learning with you.
Here are a few things you might like to know about our year group:
PE Days:
Monday and Tuesday. Monday is our swimming day and on Tuesday we have a PE lesson at school.
Please ensure your child comes to school in the correct PE kit. Long hair should be tied up and any jewellery should be removed before coming to school.
Our swimming lessons are crucial as the children are learning a skill that could save their life.
Homework:
Spellings will be sent out every Tuesday and the spelling test will be held the following Monday. Please practise the spellings with your child, encouraging them to use the words in sentences too.
Reading:
Please read with your child regularly. In Year 4, we love to read sections of our text aloud to our class and regularly reading aloud at home can really improve our confidence. It is also important to discuss your child’s book with them to check their understanding.
Times Tables:
In Year 4, we will complete the Multiplication Tables Check (MTC) in the Summer term. The MTC involves answering times tables questions in less than 6 seconds, so times table fluency is incredibly important. Please practise times tables with your child regularly, TT Rockstars is a brilliant app to support this.
Music:
In Year 4, children have the privilege of being able to learn a musical instrument in lessons with the Derby Music Hub using clarinets provided by the Hub. There will also be the opportunity to take these instruments home each work so children can practise. This year, we are learning how to play the clarinet alongside learning various songs and how to read musical notations. At the end of the year, parents are given the opportunity to book their child in to have 1 to 1 or small group clarinet lessons in Year 5 and 6.
Swimming:
Swimming is an incredibly important life-saving skill that all children should have and the National Curriculum requires that all children should be able to swim 25m unaided. In Year 4, we go for weekly swimming lessons at Moorways Leisure Centre in order for them to have met the national expectations by the time they reach Year 6.
