Year 2 - Hedgehogs 2024 - 2025
Mrs Farooq
Year 2 Teacher
Welcome to the Hedgehog class from Mrs Farooq!
We are very proud of the way all the children have settled into their new class with a fantastic attitude and readiness to learn. It is lovely to see how each child has embraced this transition, showing enthusiasm and curiosity. From their eagerness to collaborate with peers to their willingness to ask questions and explore new concepts, the children are creating an inspiring classroom environment.
Year Two marks a significant milestone as it is the final year of our Key Stage One learning. This year is about building our knowledge and fostering a love for learning through our innovative INSPIRE curriculum. As we learn and explore our various topics, we look forward to sharing our exciting news with you about all the great things that happen in our classroom.
Here are a few things you might like to know about our year group:
PE Days
Monday and Wednesday
Please ensure your child comes to school in the correct PE kit. Long hair should be tied up and any jewellery should be removed before coming to school.
Home Learning Challenges, Knowledge Organiser and Curriculum Newsletter
Every half term we send out the following documents:
- Home Learning Challenges
- Knowledge Organiser with Crucial Curriculum Content
- Curriculum Newsletter
We ask that you familiarise yourself with these and share the learning journey with your child. We know how valuable support from home is, hence, we ask you to support us in delivering an inspiring curriculum so that your child can believe, achieve and succeed.
Homework:
Spellings will be sent out every Tuesday and the spelling test will be held the following Monday. Please practise the spellings with your child, encouraging them to use the words in sentences too.
Reading:
We kindly ask you to read with your child at least four times a week. This should be recorded in their reading diaries and signed by an adult. It is essential that they read regularly to develop their ability to decode words fluently so they can meet age-related expectations at the end of the year. Children in Year Two will work towards Accelerated Reader where they read books and take a short test to check their comprehension and understanding.
